1963

Zitrón commences operations

Zitrón is founded in the coastal city of Gijón in Asturias, a province in north western Spain with a long history of mining. The company focuses on the design and manufacture of a diverse range of equipment, including fans, locomotives and diffusers, for the local mining industry.

1970/90

Consolidation and growth

Zitrón grows and expands to meet the increased needs of the mining sector in Asturias and other parts of Spain.

1991

Diversification

As the Asturian coal mining sector begins to decline, Zitrón embarks on international diversification and changes strategy to focus on supplying axial ventilation systems for underground mines, road, rail and metro tunnels.

2001

Global footprint expanded

To meet growing demand from the local market, Zitrón establishes its first overseas subsidiary in India.

2004

Investment in quality assurance

To further its commitment to quality and innovation, Zitrón designs and builds the world’s biggest aerodynamic test bench for underground ventilation fans at its global head office installations.

2006

‘M-30’ motorway milestone

Zitrón designs, manufactures and installs the ventilation system for one of the most important road projects in Spain, Madrid’s M-30 ring road motorway.

2013

50th anniversary

 

Zitrón, firmly established as a major player in the global underground ventilation sector, celebrates the 50th anniversary of its founding.

2015

Qatar’s ‘Doha Metro’ becomes Zitrón’s largest ever turnkey project

Zitrón is mandated to design, manufacture and install on a full turnkey basis the ventilation system for the Doha metro in Qatar.

 

2019

Global expansion picks up pace

Zitrón’s global reach grows with the establishment of a subsidiary in Canada, the consolidation of its South African operations and the approval for the construction of a new manufacturing centre in Australia. The company’s footprint expands to cover over 80 countries on 5 continents.
