In 2002, a team of highly experienced engineers – specialized in the design and production of industrial fans and tunnel ventilation systems – decided to start up their own company focusing on tunnel ventilation.
A partnership was forged with a leading Spanish mining and tunnel ventilation system manufacture, Talleres Zitrón SA (based in Gijón), that was prepared to provide full support for their venture. In no time, Zitron Nederland BV came into being.
We principally operate in Western and Central Europe, whereas Talleres Zitrón SA focuses on Southern Europe, Asia and South America, as the world’s largest supplier of metro ventilation systems. As such, we complement one another perfectly.
We are currently working on numerous tunnel ventilation projects in countries including Austria (Arlbergtunnel and Gleinalmtunnel) and Switzerland (Galleria Mappo-Morettina, Tunnel Längholz, Tunnel Büttenberg, Mositunnel, Tunnel du Mont Terri and Tunnel du Mont Russelin).
Since the establishment in 2002 more than 50 traffic tunnels have been equipped with ventilation systems from Zitron Nederland.
In the same year that the company was founded, Siemens Building Technologies in Berlin demonstrated its confidence in this ambitious team’s abilities by assigning Zitron Nederland BV the project to design, supply, install and commission the ventilation system for the longest motorway tunnel in Germany, the Rennsteig Tunnel. Numerous clients followed Siemens Building Technologies’ lead in the years to follow, assigning the company projects in Austria (Tauern Tunnel), Belgium (Waasland Tunnel), Luxembourg (Gousselerbierg Tunnel), Switzerland (Kirchenwald-Lopper Tunnel) and the Netherlands (Barendrecht Tunnel).
