PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project: The M5 Legacy Way (formerly Northern Link Tunnel) is a 4.6 kilometres long tunnel linking the Western Freeway at Toowong and the Inner-City Bypass at Kelvin Grove in Brisbane. The project consisted of two bored tunnels carrying two motorway grade lanes of traffic in each direction.

Scope of Supply: Zitrón’s scope of works comprises the engineering, design, construction, delivery and commissioning of the tunnel axial and jet fans, including 2D silencers, fan discharge diffusers and tunnel sound attenuators.

The Axial fans were fitted with high efficiency stabilisation chambers (anti-stall rings) that allow for safe fan operation in the harshest conditions while maintaining high efficiency rates at a wide range of duty points and under any possible ventilation scenario.

The fans were designed to operate under normal tunnel environmental conditions as well as under emergency conditions with a high temperature rating of 250 °C / 2 hours.
